Bitter rivals at it once again.
The first round featured 3 upsets, and the top 2 seeds both went to 7 games. It seems that there is a lot of parity, at least in the whatifsports system. We start off the second round with our #1 seed facing off against another BYU team.
Series 9 Preview: This is a classic battle of styles. SDSU focuses on defense and plays slow, BYU focuses on offence and likes to run. Whichever team can play to their style will likely come out on top.
Game 1: Viejas Arena, Series tied 0-0.
SDSU uncharacteristically lights it up from downtown and takes game 1. BYU can’t get their offense going as they have 16 turnovers.
Game 2: Viejas Arena, SDSU leads series 1-0
BYU gets their offense going but the Aztec’s hot streak continues and they pull out a close one. Kawhi knocks down a buzzer beater for the W.
Here is how the last 2 minutes of the game went.
Game 3: Marriott Center, SDSU leads series 2-0
The Aztec’s hot shooting disappeared in game 3 and BYU takes a 2 point victory. This is shaping up to be the best series so far.
Here’s how the last 2 minutes went.
Game 4: Marriott Center, SDSU leads series 2-1
Home court holds true in game 4 as BYU ties the series. SDSU has now lost 2 games in a row after leading at the half.
Game 5: Viejas Arena, Series tied 2-2.
BYU seems to have figured the Aztecs out. They put up 91 points on a great defense. The Aztecs are still scoring a lot but haven’t been able to slow down BYU. It’s the third game in a row that SDSU lost after leading at the half.
Game 6: Marriott Center, BYU leads series 3-2.
I should send an apology letter to what if sports for all the hate mail they’re going to get from Aztec fans for having their simulations suggest BYU would beat SDSU in 6 games. With that, the 1 seed of the tournament has been eliminated and BYU moves on to the final 4.
