As good as advertised.
Hurricane. Hank.
The next player on our countdown of Mountain West football’s top performers, Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier, may have unofficially been the first player in conference history to get a really cool nickname after his first collegiate game ever, but there’s also no question that he held his own as a true freshman under heady circumstances.
For starters, Bachmeier was a much-ballyhooed four-star recruit replacing a four-year starter who left the program as the Mountain West’s all-time leading passer. He also had to play that first game under unusual circumstances, not just because it had to be relocated but because he had to rally the Broncos from two different 18-point deficits.
Bachmeier finished that first game with 407 passing yards, the most ever by a Boise State quarterback in his first start, and continued to show poise and toughness throughout his next seven starts, finishing 2019 with a 62.6% completion rate, 1,876 passing yards and nine touchdowns against six interceptions.
Though there’s always room for improvement as he prepares for his sophomore campaign, there’s also no doubt that the Broncos faithful are excited for his future.
