Can San Diego State go 3-0?

San Diego State goes to Las Cruces to take on New Mexico State. The Aztecs are riding high after taking down southern California powerhouse UCLA. They are starting to put important pieces together — a new offense, a strong defense, developing talent— before they surge into Mountain West play. The Aztecs expect to roll through Las Cruces and take names.

The New Mexico State Aggies are 0-2 because of their Independent status. They opened the season at Washington State and flew into Tuscaloosa, AL so they can bring in the revenues needed to run the entire athletic program. The Aggies are eager to come home and put up more than 17 points, but their scheduling has not made it easy.

The Aggies are desperate for a win and while San Diego State could sleepwalking through Las Cruces don’t put it past the man from Albuquerque.

Marquee Matchup: Rocky Long vs New Mexico State

Rocky Long is proud of his time at the University of New Mexico as an alum as well as the head coach there. It’s been noted earlier this season how Long has the team staying in El Paso, TX and not Las Cruces, NM.

Long is hyper-aware of the emotional high of beating a Power-5 opponent especially in their stadium. Those things happen, but a good coach like Long can get his guys focused for an opponent like New Mexico State. Long remembers the previous time San Diego State and New Mexico State squared up and the Aztecs were down 0-16 at the half.

The Lobo in Long wants his guys taking this game seriously. His pride is on the line as he hates his former in-state rival and wants to put a hurting on them.

Betting Angle:

Take the under at 51. The Aggies have taken a beating the last two games, and San Diego State still has a lot to prove on offense. This Aztecs defense is more impressive than previous years, and I wouldn’t put it past San Diego State to shut the Aggies out.
