Air Force takes flight for Boulder

Air Force takes a serious step up in weight class on Saturday as they take on the Colorado Buffaloes. The Falcons are coming off of a bye, after handling Colgate in Week 1. The Buffs, on the other hand, are seemingly battle-tested after a winning an overtime thriller last week against the visiting, and then-ranked, Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Air Force will face a much greater test this week when they meet Colorado in Boulder. While the Cadets had their way with Colgate, they can expect significantly more resistance in every facet of the game this week. Colorado possesses one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the country with Laviska Shenault Jr. The Falcon defense needs to be aware of where he is at all times.

ODDS (via OddsShark): Colorado -4

FEI PROJECTION: Colorado by 3.6

SP+ PROJECTION: Colorado by 3.7 (58% win probability)

For the Falcons to win – and they can — their offense has to stay on schedule and therefore on the field, punctuating drives with points. Preferably in bunches of seven. The defense will look to be very active in trying to disrupt any rhythm the Steven Montez and the Buffs offense wants to establish.

My heart says ‘Feel the Thunder’, but my head says Colorado by the slightest of margins. Had there been a greater sample size, particularly for the Air Force defense against a more potent offense, I would probably lean differently. A close loss to the Buffaloes would be respectable, and not derail the season. Prove me wrong Falcons, prove me wrong.
