2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #2, Utah State QB Jordan Love
Utah State’s Heisman candidate is the top-ranked quarterback and the top-ranked Aggie on our countdown of the conference’s best.
A surefire NFL quarterback prospect in our midst.
The Utah State Aggies had one of their most successful seasons ever in 2018 for a number of reasons, but perhaps no player was more responsible for their emergence than quarterback Jordan Love, who checks in at #2 on our countdown of the Mountain West’s best.
After splitting time as the starting quarterback with Kent Myers in 2017, Love had the role all to himself last fall and delivered beyond anyone’s wildest expectations. He completed 64% of his passes and threw for 3,567 yards and 32 touchdowns against just six interceptions. His 8.7 yards per attempt and 158.32 passer rating were the best such figures in the Mountain West, too, and he contributed a 50% success rate on 34 rushing attempts (after adjusting for sacks) and scored seven more touchdowns on the ground.
It’s no surprise, then, that Utah State’s athletic department threw its support behind a Heisman Trophy campaign for its senior quarterback with the hashtag #10veForHeisman. With a pretty convincing argument as the best signal-caller in the Group of 5, Love’s ceiling in 2019 is sky high and you can bet the Aggies faithful can’t wait to see how he caps his career. If Love leads the Aggies all the way to the Mountain West title, he might just go down as the program’s best quarterback ever.
