It doesn’t matter, but still.

The Associated Press top 25 poll revealed its preseason rankings and, to no one’s surprise, the Mountain West and the Group of 5 got virtually no respect.

Boise State, Fresno State, and Utah State did receive some votes and begin the year 33rd, 37th, and 38th, respectively, but the UCF Knights at #17 are the lone team from the G5 to begin the year ranked.

Meanwhile, eight different Power 5 teams who finished 2018 unranked will begin the year in the AP Top 25. A Nebraska team who lost eight games last season will start in the top 25. This isn’t anything new — on average over the past five years, the AP has ranked just one G5 team in the preseason poll — but it just goes to show the whole system is a worthless crock designed to prop up success-starved, has-been programs that are thirsty for any shred of respect they may have warranted at some point in the past.

Fresno State won 12 games last year, by the way. Boise State won ten and Utah State won 11. It’s not like they didn’t deserve a little more respect.
