2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #8, Nevada RB Toa Taua
The powerful Nevada running back is the highest-ranked member of the Wolf Pack on this year’s countdown of Mountain West football’s best.
The “Terror” is Nevada’s best weapon.
After a sensational freshman campaign, Nevada running back Toa Taua bulled his way into the top ten on our annual list of the conference’s top players, settling in at #8 overall.
Taua arrived in Reno as one of the program’s most hotly-anticipated recruits ever last fall and did not disappoint, earning the conference’s Freshman of the Year honor as the lead runner in a committee that complemented the more heralded Air Raid passing game. He ran for 872 yards, tenth among FBS freshmen, while adding 22 catches (and an 88% catch rate) for 202 yards and seven total touchdowns.
With a newly minted starting quarterback in the backfield with him this fall, the 5-foot-9 and 210-pound Taua will continue to play a critical role as the Wolf Pack work to win the rest while building a bright future. Just don’t expect opposing front sevens to have much fun in the process.
