2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #11, Fresno State LB Mykal Walker
The Fresno State middle linebacker made waves as a pass rusher in 2018 and made our countdown of the Mountain West’s best this fall.
An impact player has a new old challenge in 2019.
Our list of the Mountain West’s best players in 2019 sticks with Fresno State one last time as Mykal Walker, a defensive end in 2018 who’s penciled in at middle linebacker for this fall, is the top-rated Bulldog at #11 overall.
After transferring from Division II Azusa Pacific and redshirting in 2017, Walker’s first full season as part of the Fresno State defense proved to be a crucial one. He tallied 87 total tackles and 4.5 sacks but, more importantly, he also led the team with 14 tackles for loss and chipped in with six passes defended and two forced fumbles, as well.
Now that all three of last year’s starting linebackers have moved on, Walker is set to move back to the position he played with the Cougars. He’s already expressed confidence that last year’s experiences will help in the transition back to the old role, so anyone expecting the Bulldogs front seven to be any less tough should think again.
