2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #17, Utah State DB DJ Williams
A key member of the Aggies secondary lands on our list of Mountain West football’s best athletes.
Opponents can’t sleep on him anymore.
The Utah State defense certainly generated a lot of star power last season, which might have made it easy to overlook just how good a season DJ Williams had last year. We noticed, though, and it’s why the Aggies defensive back earned a spot on our annual list of the Mountain West’s best, checking in at #17.
Even in a deep and opportunistic secondary, Williams stood out by leading Utah State with 11 passes defended. He also tied the team high with four interceptions and chipped in with three tackles for loss, as well, meaning that he ultimately trailed just Tipa Galeai and David Woodward with his share of the defense’s overall Havoc Rate.
This year’s USU secondary might be replacing a few pieces, but opposing quarterbacks will still need to be mindful of Williams as he aims to help the Aggies finish the job and claim the conference title.
