2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #19, Utah State WR/KR Savon Scarver
The Aggies’ All-American kick returner was an easy choice to crack our countdown of Mountain West football’s best.
What will he do for an encore?
If you’re an All-American athlete, you’re a shoo-in for a spot on our countdown of Mountain West football’s best. That’s the case for Savon Scarver, who lands at #19 on this year’s list, after he established himself as one of the nation’s premier return specialists.
Scarver became Utah State’s first consensus All-American since 1969, joining Aggie legends Merlin and Phil Olsen, by leading the nation with 33.73 yards per kick return. He was also one of just five players to return at least two kicks for scores, which is why he was also our preseason selection as the conference’s special teams player of the year, and pitched in on offense with nine catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
It remains to be seen whether he can follow in Rashaad Penny’s footsteps — the former San Diego State running back managed to average at least 30 yards per return in back-to-back seasons — and even though he may also take on a larger role in the Aggies attack, he’s a good bet to play at an all-conference level yet again.
