What do the coaches think about the Mountain West?
August is here and that means it is officially a month that we can say football is out and with that the USA TODAY coaches poll is out and not to the surprise of anyone there are zero Mountain West teams ranked in the somewhat meaningless top 25 poll.
There are three teams earning votes and it starts with Boise State which has 118 votes and is just two spots away from being ranked, so a win over Florida State in the opener should be enough to get them ranked for Week 2.
The other schools earning votes are Fresno State and Utah State both earned 32 points and are in the middle of the pack of the others receiving vote categories.
There is just one Group of Five team ranked and that is UCF which comes in at No. 17.
Historically, the coaches poll puts one and on the rare occasion two non-power teams in the rankings, but looking back at the end of season polls there will be multiple teams from outside the big five conferences that finish in the top 25. So, there is hope that a few Mountain West teams will be ranked not just in a few weeks but by the end of the year.
