2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #40, New Mexico WR/KR Elijah Lilly
The speedy New Mexico wide receiver is the lone member of the Lobos on our countdown of Mountain West football’s best players.
Blink and you’ll miss him.
New Mexico Lobos wide receiver and kick returner Elijah Lilly continues our list of Mountain West football’s 52 best players, checking in at #40 after quietly emerging as one of the conference’s best all-around threats.
Lilly came into 2018 best known as a return specialist, a role in which he continued in for New Mexico by averaging 17.6 yards per kick return last fall. More importantly for the Lobos, however, he also broke out as a reliable option in the passing game, catching 21 passes for 377 yards (18.8 yards per catch) and five touchdowns. Eight of those catches went for 20 or more yards, adding a dynamic big-play element to the offense.
Now a senior, Lilly is the team’s leading returning receiver by just about every traditional metric, so getting the ball in his hands is likely to be a priority for New Mexico all fall and, most likely, a headache for opponents to deal with.
