2019 Mountain West Football Top 52 Players: #48, Boise State RB Robert Mahone
Mahone is the latest Boise State Broncos running back to land a spot in our annual countdown of Mountain West football’s best players.
A leader on SJSU’s defense.
The next player on our list of Mountain West football’s 52 best players is Boise State running back Robert Mahone, who might be the key toward extending one of the conference’s most quietly impressive streaks.
At the moment, the Broncos own the longest streak of seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher in the FBS, but with Alexander Mattison moving onto the NFL, Mahone should be in line to carve out a much larger role and extend that run to eleven years. Though he had just 32 carries for 128 yards in 2018, he did finish with a 53.1% Opportunity Rate and a 50% Success Rate, both of which were slightly better than Mattison’s.
While it’s difficult to extrapolate too much from a small sample, it seems a safe bet regardless that, thanks to Mahone, the Boise State running game will remain no fun for opponents to face.
