Steve Alford makes an announcement, sort of.
The Nevada Wolf Pack basketball team held its celebration dinner with new head coach Steve Alford on Monday night.
The new coach made waves by saying that the Wolf Pack will open the season hosting the University of Utah as part of the second half of a home-and-home.
Alford said that he wanted a big crowd vs. the Utes, “we need 12-13,000 people at that game!”
Well… maybe the game is not the opener.
Part of the confusion could be that Alford did not realize that the media was in attendance. Really, Alford did not think the media would be there? Not buying that for a moment.
Having the Utes make its return trip to Reno is not a shock at all and odds are this game will be the home opener since Alford said as much. The source from Nevada Sports Net is probably covering their tail by saying the game is not finalized and that likely just means the contract may not be official for this game.
Other good news at this event was a Jordan Brown sighting in the crowd and in a Wolf Pack hoodie. The former five-star blue chip recruit has put his name in the transfer portal when Eric Musselman left Nevada for Arkansas but that does not necessarily mean he is leaving Reno.
Seeing him at the end of the year banquet is just a positive and pushes the needle toward him staying at Nevada and not transferring out of the program.
