Utah State is a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will take on No. 9 seed Washington in the first round in Columbus, Ohio on Friday.
The Aggies won the Mountain West Tournament and secured the conference’s autobid Saturday evening with a 64-57 win over San Diego State. Friday’s winner expects to battle No. 1 seed North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Led by first-year head coach Craig Smith, Utah State shared the Mountain West regular season title with Nevada thanks to a 15-3 conference record.
Utah State entered the day 29th in NET with quality wins over Nevada, Saint Mary’s, and UC Irvine. It’s the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011.
Washington, the winner of the Pac-12 regular season title, is led by senior stars Noah Dickerson and Matisse Thybulle.
