Will Fresno State and SDSU hear its name?
The NIT will get its pick of 32 teams after the NCAA Tournament gets to select its field of 68. For the Mountain West, there could be as many as two teams get plucked in San Diego State and Fresno State.
Both have chances and make a case to get into the second-tier tournament. San Diego State has been playing well over the last third of the season with a pair of wins of Nevada. Fresno State finished third in the league and had a 23-9 record.
One item to note about NIT bids and it is that the regular season champions automatically get into the tournament if they do not win the conference tournament and are not selected as an at-large team for the NCAA Tournament.
