Who Has The Best Odds?

The Mountain West tournament kicks off at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Wednesday, and while we have our why teams can win the whole thing we also want to discuss what teams have the best odds to take home the automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament.

We will use a few different websites to try to get some sort of consensus with who will be victorious, some have round-by-round projections and others have odds to just win the entire tournament.

The favorite should be no surprise as it is Nevada which has been the best team from start to finish in the Mountain West, and the hottest team is Utah State and followed closely behind is San Diego State. Remember, last year the Aztecs made a surprise run to not only win the conference tournament but upset Nevada along the way.

Let’s begin with odds to win the whole thing from a pair of gambling websites.

It should be no surprise that it is Nevada followed by Utah State and then reasonably close is Fresno State. UNLV is also getting somewhat favorable odds from both Vegas oddsmaker Matt Lindeman and Bovada. Part of that has to be that they are playing on its home court and they also have a bye this year.

However, seeing them tied in Lindetrain and then ahead of the Aztecs in Bovada is surprising. If you want to best on the long shots of long shots, go with Wyoming which is getting the longest odds but they also have one of the leagues best players in Justin James.

Here are the odds from Bovada.

KenPom and TeamRankings.com go round by round which is interesting to follow along. If these get updated round-by-round we will do the same.

Again, it is Nevada at Utah State at the top with those two having the best odds with the Wolf Pack being a toss up by KenPom but just over 60 percent from TeamRankigns.com.

Make no mistake, the Wolf Pack are the heavy favorites to earn the Mountain West auto-bid. Fresno State is the only other team to earn double-digits odds to win the whole thing.

Here are the projections from Team Rankings.

Utah State has a very favorable draw to the finals for who they could potentially matchup against before a potential matchup against Nevada.

Nevada has a similar path with any potential matchup to the title game where the only loss they suffered this year on its side of the bracket is to San Diego State.
