Week 17 Mountain West Basketball Power Rankings: Utah State Takes Over No. 1 Spot
Aggies are in the running to win the whole thing.
One week left and Aggies are in front
For the first time all year in Mountain West basketball there is a new No. 1 team atop the rankings, and it is the Utah State Aggies. The Aggies defeated Nevada over the weekend, 81-76, to move into a tie into first place in the standings, and that was also enough to propel them to the top spot in our rankings.
This was not a unanimous pick for Utah State as there were three of the 10 votes going for Nevada. As of now, the Aggies have one game left against Colorado State and that is a likely win, but the Wolf Pack have to play Air Force on Tuesday night and then host San Diego State.
The Aggies have an easier path to not only finish atop our power rankings but to at least share the conference title, but the championship could come down to that Nevada vs. San Diego State game since the Aztecs have won three in a row over the Wolf Pack.
These rankings go through games played from Feb. 25 – March 3
