San Diego State vs. San Jose State: Game Preview, TV & Radio Schedule, Livestream, Odds, More
The Aztecs look to get their first road victory in conference plays.
Are the Aztecs on the verge of a long winning streak?
The San Diego State Aztecs head to perennial Mountain West cellar dweller San Jose State for a big opportunity to get their first road win. San Jose State has long been a program that has been at the bottom of the standings and when they do get a good player or two, they usually transfer. This season has been tough for the Aztecs, but as they say it could always be worse. And it could be as the Aztecs could be a program like the Spartans who seem to not be able to get themselves on the right path.
San Diego State is winless on the road in Mountain West play, however, today is an opportunity for the team to get their first victory on the road. Jalen McDaniels has recently been leading the charge for the Aztecs with six straight double-doubles, which is the second most behind Aztec great Michael Cage (8). While the Spartans will not present a great challenge the Aztecs still need to perform and not be over confident.
Control the Boards
This season the Aztecs have had a tough time on the glass, however that has been an area that has improved in recent weeks. The insertion of Nathan Mensah into the starting lineup has helped in that category as the 6-10 center has been a force on the glass. Against a team such as the Spartans it is imperative not to allow second chance points.
Recently the Aztecs have been playing defense at a much better level, which has led to better play. It is common for teams to slack or play down to teams that may not be playing well. San Diego State needs to take this game seriously and give the effort against the Spartans as they would against Nevada. If they turn the Spartans over they can turn defense into offense. Should the Aztecs play like they have recently then a victory would likely follow at the final buzzer.
Share the ball
Aztecs fans have probably noticed that when the team moves the ball the offense runs better. When players press too much and take it upon themselves to score the ball stops moving and the offense stalls. San Diego State needs to get everyone involved and make the ball move to get some easy shots.
