Nevada Basketball: Three Keys For The Wolf Pack’s Game Against San Jose State
The Wolf Pack return to Reno after an ugly loss to face off against San Jose State. Here are three keys for Nevada to come away with the win.
Can The Wolf Pack Bounce Back Against San Jose State
The Nevada Wolf Pack return home to Reno where they will face off against the San Jose State Spartans on Wednesday Night on CBS Sports Network.
The Wolf Pack are looking to bounce back from an ugly road loss to New Mexico 85-58 on Saturday night and will look to possibly defeat San Jose State to get back on the winning track.
Here are three keys for the Wolf Pack to defeat the Spartans.
– Find a way to contain Michael Steadman
San Jose State is not a good offensive team. The Spartans are next to last in the Mountain West conference in scoring offense as they are averaging only 68 points per game. In KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency rankings, the Spartans are ranked 326th in that category. It is very safe to say that so far this season, San Jose State struggles to score.
The lone bright spot for the Spartans on offense is 6-10 forward Michael Steadman. The junior from Union City, California leads the team in points per game as he is averaging 13.8 points per game this season. Steadman also leads the team in rebounds as he is averaging a little over nine rebounds per game.
– Wolf Pack must get better production from the Martin Twins
In their 85-58 loss to New Mexico on Saturday night, Caleb and Cody Martin went a combined 4 for 21 from the field (1-9 from the three-point line) and scored a combined 17 points in Nevada’s loss to the Lobos. All in all, the Martin twins had an off night in Albuquerque on Saturday,
The Wolf Pack do need contributions from Jordan Caroline, Tre’Shawn Thurman and company obviously but it is the talents of Caleb and Cody Martin that make the Wolf Pack an excellent team. The Martin’s talents need to be on display and at peak efficiency on Wednesday.
Stopping Steadman will be essential and critical for the Nevada to get back on the winning track on Wednesday night.
– Nevada must not let New Mexico beat them twice
When I say this, I mean that the Wolf Pack need to focus on the task of defeating San Jose State on Wednesday and not let the brutal loss on the road against New Mexico distract them from achieving their goal of winning the Mountain West. If the Wolf Pack are focus and play to the absolute best on Wednesday, then they should be able to get back on the winning track against San Jose State.
