Mountain West shows its strength
The college football season is officially in the books after Clemson boat raced Alabama in Santa Clara, and with that comes the final rankings of the year from the Associated Press.
The Mountain West is well represented with three teams earning an end of season ranking. Fresno State is 18th after topping Arizona State in the Las Vegas Bowl, Utah State is 22nd after its win vs. North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl and Boise State is 23rd but its bowl game against Boston College was canceled.
Having three teams ranked in the final AP top 25 has only happened two other times in Mountain West history. The other two years came in the consecutive years of 2008 and 2009.
In 2008, Utah was No. 2, TCU was No. 7 and BYU came in at No. 25. The following year saw TCU at No. 6, BYU 12th and Utah was 18th.
