A late-season surge could spell big things.
The Fresno State Bulldogs might have had their best season ever in 2018 and while it might seem hyperbolic to say it would not have happened without running back Ronnie Rivers, who lands at #22 on our annual list of Mountain West football’s top athletes, he did have a season to remember.

Rivers, of course, scored the winning touchdown in last year’s championship game, but he also ripped off 286 all-purpose yards in the subsequent Las Vegas Bowl victory over Arizona State, as well. All that happened only after he was eased back into action early in the year while recovering from an injury, but the 108.4 all-purpose yards per game he averaged rank first among Mountain West players returning in 2019.
Add to that an 83.9% catch rate on 31 targets, a healthy 49.2% Opportunity Rate and 13 total touchdowns, and you have the makings of a do-it-all runner who will play a key role in Fresno State’s offense this fall.
