The Mountain West makes a small bit of history.
After closing another chapter in their rivalry, the Fresno State Bulldogs and Boise State Broncos follow up their epic Mountain West championship showdown by earning a measure of respect from the College Football Playoff committee.
For the first time in the CFP’s five-year history, the Mountain West will finish the season with two teams in the top 25. Fresno State, who emerged with a 19-16 overtime victory against the Broncos, climbed four spots to #21. Despite the loss, Boise State still managed to finish in the top 25 for the second straight year, landing at the very bottom at #25.
The Bulldogs leapfrogged idle Missouri; Iowa State, who nearly lost to FCS Drake; and Northwestern, who lost the Big Ten title game to Ohio State.
