Report: Utah State’s Matt Wells Is Negotiating With Texas Tech

Wells to the Big 12?

Matt Wells and Texas Tech seem to be getting more serious about him becoming the next Red Raiders head coach. First, there was a report about Wells being the frontrunner, but now negotiations are reportedly happening between the two parties, according to KCBD Sports.

There are not many more details about Wells and Red Raiders athletics director Kirby Hocutt in terms of what is what is being discussed, nor are there any other candidates connected per reports to this job which is somewhat concerning to Utah State fans.

Hocutt did say he has names in mind.

“You can not put all of your eggs in one basket,” Hoccutt said via KCBD. Things can take various turns on you. We are working on the list everyday. The list can change. We are having a conversation with somebody who is a coordinator at a high profile program.”

As for what he wants as a head coach, Hoccutt gave a blanket generic answer that could fit into any program which is searching for a new head coach.

“I want a head coach who going to come in and set the vision, surrounding themselves with an extremely talented staff and give their 100 percent focus and attention to the young men in the locker room and the recruiting class.”
