Warriors get one last game to play at home
It was never in doubt that an eight-win Hawaii team would be playing in Aloha Stadium one more time in the Hawaii Bowl. Now its opponent is official and they will be taking on Louisiana Tech out of Conference USA.
“On behalf of the Hawai‘i Bowl Executive Committee, I’m proud to announce this thrilling match-up between Louisiana Tech University and the University of Hawai‘i and congratulate both teams on successful seasons,” Hawai‘i Bowl Executive Director Daryl Garvin said. “What better location to end a football season than the beautiful and scenic island of O‘ahu.”
The Warriors are making its eight ever bowl game appearance in the Hawaii Bowl and 12th overall, and the Bulldogs are riding a four-game bowl winning streak and will be heading to its 11th overall bowl game.
“We’re extremely proud to represent our University in the Hawai‘i Bowl,” Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich said. “We’re also very excited to rekindle some old Western Athletic Conference battles against a very talented Louisiana Tech team on December 22. It could very well be one of the more exciting games of the bowl season.”
Lousiana Tech finished the year 7-5 but lost three of its last four games after starting off 6-2. The team is led by quarterback J’Mar Smith who threw for 2,875 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Their biggest playmaker is wide receiver Adrian Hardy who hauled in 69 receptions for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns.
