The Mountain division gets respect.
After some mild shakeups in the coaches poll released on Sunday morning, the Utah State Aggies and Boise State Broncos will head into their epic showdown ranked by the Associated Press, as well.
Utah State had to survive in Fort Collins with a 29-24 win over Colorado State, but that unexpected challenge didn’t change their overall standing since the Aggies held steady at #14. Boise State, meanwhile, took care of business with an easy 45-14 win at New Mexico, which helped them improve from #23 to #21.
Fresno State, meanwhile, fell out of last week’s top 25 after losing on the blue to the Broncos, and a solid 23-14 win over San Diego State didn’t provide the hoped-for rebound. They improved from #28 to #26 overall, 23 points behind Iowa State.
As in the coaches poll, though, UCF is still in the pole position among teams from the Group of 5. Their 38-13 win against Cincinnati, ranked #19 in last week’s top 25, pushed the Knights from #11 into a tie at #8 with LSU. Army also played their way into these rankings, as well, debuting at #23 after a 28-14 against Colgate.
