Mountain West Title Game Scenarios

There were changes to how the Mountain West determined its host for the conference title game since there was some controversy with Boise State hosting.

The team with the best overall conference record will host.

Nevada hosts if…

The Wolf Pack have three league losses and would have fewer than Utah State or Boise State from the Mountain Divison and cannot host the title game in any scenario.

Utah State hosts if…

– Nevada wins the West Division.

– The Aggies have zero league losses.

– The Aggies have one league loss and any West champion has two losses.

– Former BCS computers would decide who hosts if Fresno State and the Aggies finish with one league loss and this would require Boise State losing to New Mexico but defeating the Aggies. Same would be the case if the Aggies have two losses and so does whoever wins the West. This is because Utah State did not play Fresno State or San Diego State.

Boise State hosts if…

– Nevada wins the West Division.

– The Broncos beat both New Mexico and Utah State.

– The Broncos have the same number of losses as Fresno State. Boise State would own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Fresno State hosts if…

– The Bulldogs win out and Boise State losses to New Mexico but beats Utah State. Fresno State would have one fewer league losses which is the first determination to host.

– Former BCS computers would decide who hosts if Utah State and the Bulldogs finish with one league loss. This also would require Boise State losing to New Mexico but defeating the Aggies. This is because Utah State did not play Fresno State.

San Diego State hosts if…

– The Aztecs have two losses and Boise State has two losses. San Diego State would own the head-to-head tiebreaker.
