WHERE: Arena-Auditorium; Laramie, WY
SERIES RECORD: First meeting
GAME NOTES: Wyoming
ODDS: No Line
One week before Wyoming heads to sunny Florida for the inaugural Fort Myers Tip Off and a matchup with Boston College, they return to Laramie to face Grambling State from the SWAC and Niagara from the MAAC in Fort Myers Tip Off Opening games.
Through two games, the two most concerning areas for Wyoming are rebounding and 3 point shooting. The Pokes have gotten killed on the glass in each of their first 2 games and it hasn’t been close. Wyoming’s opponents are averaging 42.5 rebounds per game to the Cowboys 28 rebounds per game. With 6’10” forward Hunter Thompson still in the concussion protocol and 6’10” forward Jordan Naughton recovering from a knee injury, Wyoming will have their work cut out for them.
Three pointing shooting has been awful with Wyoming shooting 23%. When you combine the amount of 3’s they shoot with the percentage they shoot them at, it’s easy to see why 12-52 in their first 2 games has put them at 0-2 on the season.
While rebounding and shooting have been weaknesses for the team early this season, the Cowboys are forcing 15 turnovers a game. If they can limit their turnovers, it will help offset the loss of Thompson and Naughton on the glass.
Grambling State has only played one game this season, a 105-68 win over Jarvis Christian College. They were picked as the preseason favorite to win the 2019 SWAC title and Ivy Smith Jr.was selected to the preseason first team. South Dakota State transfer Dallas Polk-Hilliard led the Tigers with 17 points and 10 rebounds in their season-opening win.
