Week 11 College Football Playoff Rankings: Where Is Fresno State, Utah State
Will Utah State earn a spot in the top 25?
Will there be two Mountain West teams?
The first College Football Playoff poll featured just one Mountain West team in Fresno State, whereas Utah State was arguably the biggest snub with its then 7-1 record and there was a trio of teams ranked with three losses.
Both the Aggies and Bulldogs won their Week 10 games in convincingly fashion last week which will help each of their causes. What also helps is that No. 25 Virginia, No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 17 Texas, No. 16 Iowa, No. 15 Utah and No. 14 Penn State all lost.
Some of those teams will still be ranked based on who they lost to but it will no doubtingly help Fresno State move up in the polls and get Utah State ranked. Our Matt Kenerly projected the top 25 and his version has the Aggies on the outside looking in, and the Bulldogs ranked in those projections.
The latest ranking place Fresno State comes in at 23rd and Utah State is not ranked once again.
A few notes about the poll:
Iowa State who beats a Kansas team that just fired its coached jumped ahead of Fresno State and if the argument is that the Jayhawks are a Power 5 team in the Big 12 and the Bulldogs win over UNLV is way different. Well, you’d be wrong. S&P+ had Kansas at 101 heading into its Week 10 game and UNLV 107, so not sure how that victory gave the Cyclones a jump in the polls. Oh, and they still have three losses to Fresno State’s single loss.
Also, Michigan State went from unranked to No. 18 after beating a Maryland team that is a mess and is just 5-4. That same Spartans team only beat Utah State by seven points and the Aggies put up the most points on Michigan State all year. Yet, Utah State is not ranked
