The much anticipated College Football Playoff top 25 rankings were released on ESPN and only Fresno State earned a ranking at No. 23.

Utah State was royally snubbed by not earning a ranking in the first playoff poll yet there are three-loss teams like Texas A&M and Mississippi State coming in at 18 and 20 overall.

Can you say SEC bias?

Oh, and a freaking 4-3 Iowa State team is in the top 25.

Please…

You can not convince us that the Aggies do not deserve to be ranked in the top 25. Has the committee not seen Utah State play — the same can be said for Houston which is playing at a level similar to Utah State by just crushing its competition.

Let’s take a live look at Utah State fans:

In the AP poll Utah State is 18 and Fresno State is 20 while in the USA TODAY coaches poll the Aggies are 20 and the Bulldogs are 23rd. These polls are not to reflect similarly in the playoff poll but the difference for the Aggies is disturbing.

The Aggies schedule works against them as their best game left is Boise State who has two losses, but there is a chance the Broncos could get closer to being ranked if they keep winning. However, at the very least Boise State will have 10 wins and be considered a quality win.

Fresno State at 23 is probably about right but if they are going to be the team to possibly catch UCF. They do get to play Boise State and San Diego State which will end up winning 10 games each.

In comparison to the rest of the Group of Five teams UCF is the highest and are 12th overall despite having a strength of schedule in the triple digits and its best win is a .500 Memphis team.

With these first set of rankings do not get too excited or too depressed in seeing where your favorite team is at in the pecking order. There are still four more regular season weeks ahead and also the conference title games.

Also, there are plenty of games against teams who are both ranked and will knock some down and then give the Mountain West team of your choice a chance to climb the rankings.
