Wyoming vs Colorado State: Three Keys To A Rams Win

Three Keys For A Rams Win

This was mentioned last week and it’s being brought up again. Ryan Stonehouse is costing the Rams points. Mike Brohard of the Loveland Reporter-Herald noted that Stonehouse is second in the nation in yards per attempt at 50.4 yards per punt. However, Stonehouse is 108th in the nation in net punting average at 34.6. On average the Rams are allowing 22.4 yards per punt return.

The hang time on Stonehouse’s punts is causing issues. Returners repeatedly have 10+ plus yards of space to work with and it’s cost the Rams. CSU has given up three punt return touchdowns this year, tied for most in the nation. The punt coverage team is going to be huge this week as Wyoming brings a stout defense to Fort Collins.

Defense, Step Up

Wyoming has one of the worst offenses in Division 1, FBS, college football. This is the time for CSU’s defense to shine. Colorado State’s defense looked to be taking a step forward against SJSU & New Mexico, but against Boise State they took a giant leap backwards.

The matchup between CSU and Wyoming looks to be a defensive battle. In order to win this game, everybody has to do their job. Nobody can take a play off and everyone needs to stay in their lane. Too many times this season, some one has tried to make a play on defense and has gotten burned.

Collin Hill, It’s Your Time To Shine

Collin Hill was handed the reigns to the offense by head coach Mike Bobo this week. It will be Hill’s first start since tearing his ACL against Utah State two years ago. Hill took over in the 4th quarter against Boise and led the Rams on two scoring drives.

Hill showed promise during his freshman season, which was cut short. He worked his way back, redshirted last season to give him more time to recover, and then tore his ACL again before spring ball. Collin Hill has quickly worked his way back into playing shape and looks to give the Rams offense a boost against the Cowboys.

CSU is impossible to predict this year. They play bad when they’re expected to play well and they play well when they’re expected to play bad. But all that gets thrown out the window during a rivalry game. CSU should at least cover the spread in this game.

Colorado State 27, Wyoming 14
