In a season where points have been hard to find, the Cowboys face potentially their biggest test of the season as the face off against the rival Utah State Aggies. The Aggies have many outstanding offensive stats but the most eye-opening one might be 51.67… Utah State’s points per game. Wyoming has 108 total points through their first 7 games in 2018.
Slow Down Jordan Love
The Aggies quarterback has been named the Mountain West player of the week three times. At times, he has looked unstoppable running the Utah State offense. Forcing a turnover or two out of him will be tough but it will be necessary if the Cowboys are going
Limit Tarver’s Touches
Cornerback has been a severe area of weakness for the Cowboys defense this season. At 5’10”, Antonio Hull and Keyon Blankenbaker will have their hands full with 6’3″ Ron’quavion Tarver. Tarver has 2 TD receptions in each of his last 2 games and his matchup against the smaller Wyoming corners will be something to watch.
To say the Cowboys offense has been unproductive would be an understatement. While RB Nico Evans has statistically placed himself among the nation’s best runners this season, yardage and points have been spotty at best. The Cowboys have not scored more than 20 points in a game since their season-opening win against New Mexico State.
Outside of rushing stats, the Cowboys fall near the bottom of the FBS in most offensive categories. Will the Cowboys speed their pace, throw the ball more, or create more QB running opportunities? Something will need to drastically change if the Cowboys are going to stay on the field with Utah State.
