Week 8 Mountain West Football Power Rankings
Who are getting the first-place votes?
No clear top team
In the latest edition of the Mountain West power poll, there is no team that is taking all of the first-place votes. That is not all that surprising as there are three teams with one loss on the year: San Diego State, Utah State, and Fresno State.
Those three teams all earn one first-place vote but so do Boise State which has two losses on the year, and that makes it extremely tight race for the top four teams. That also means that there is a bunch of parity at the top but also there is a decent-sized game from these top four to the rest of the league.
The No. 1 team this week is Fresno State who earned four of the 11 first-place votes and they are followed by Utah State and former No. 1 San Diego State dropped to the third spot despite winning its Week 7 game against Air Force.
There is a lot of splitting hairs because the Aztecs win against the Falcons was extremely close whereas both Utah State and Fresno State won quite easily against its foes.
