Will Boise State be able to climb in the polls?
Football season is finally on our doorstep, which means that the Associated Press has finally dropped its preseason top 25 rankings. The Mountain West has exactly one team on this year’s list, and you can probably guess who it is: The Boise State Broncos, who earned 292 points and secured the #22 spot after finishing there last January.
Boise State finished 2017 with an 11-3 record, the Mountain West championship and a convincing Las Vegas Bowl win, so it’s no surprise that the Broncos find themselves on the AP’s preseason list for the first time since 2015, when the team was fresh off its most recent Fiesta Bowl victory.
They aren’t the only Group of 5 team in the top 25, however, and they’ll have some work to do in order to pass UCF, who went 13-0 and capped their undefeated year with a win over Auburn in the Sugar Bowl. The Knights begin the year at #21, with 312 points, after finishing 2017 at #6 in the AP poll.
