2018 Mountain West Football 50 Best Players: #14, Boise State CB Avery Williams
The Broncos cornerback and crack return man continues this year’s countdown of Mountain West football’s top players.
Williams’s skill set is unique in the Mountain West.
Boise State’s collection of young talent is the envy of the Mountain West, and probably the Group of 5, including the next player on our countdown of the conference’s best athletes, cornerback Avery Williams, who comes in at #14.
Williams, the third member of the Broncos secondary to make the top 50, made ten starts and didn’t waste a lot of time making an impact, breaking up eight passes and grabbing two interceptions. Special teams, however, are where Williams really made his name: He was one of just nine FBS players to return two punts for touchdowns, and he averaged 24.7 yards on 15 kickoff returns, securing a spot on the all-Mountain West second team.
Now that Rashaad Penny has moved on to a bigger stage, the sophomore Williams is definitely a front-runner to be the conference’s next special teams player of the year. Broncos fans will certainly be eager to see what he does next.
