2018 Mountain West Football 50 Best Players: #16, Boise State RB Alexander Mattison
The Broncos running back is next on our countdown of Mountain West football’s top 50 players.
Hopes remain high for Boise State’s number one runner.
This year’s list of the Mountain West’s best football players comes back once more to the blue turf. While it may have taken Alexander Mattison a little while to find his footing, the Boise State running back did enough to secure the #16 spot on the countdown.
Mattison stepped into the starting lineup with the expectation that he’d continue the Broncos’ recent successes in the ground game. He finished fifth in the Mountain West with 1,086 rushing yards, adding 28 catches and 268 receiving yards, too, but he saved his best work for when things got rough on Boise State’s climb back to the championship. He cleared 100 yards in a convincing win at San Diego State and saved the season with 286 yards from scrimmage in the comeback at Colorado State.
Now a junior, the expectations for Mattison haven’t been lowered, but don’t be shocked if his name ends atop the rushing leaderboard at season’s end.
