2018 Mountain West Football 50 Best Players: #26, New Mexico G Aaron Jenkins
New Mexico’s reliable offensive lineman is the lone Lobo on our list of Mountain West football’s top 50 players.
Can Jenkins lead a ground game resurgence?
The next athlete on our countdown of Mountain West football’s 50 best players is New Mexico guard Aaron Jenkins, one of the conference’s most experienced linemen, who is back on our list for the second year in a row at #26.
Jenkins has earned back-to-back honorable mentions on the postseason all-Mountain West team, and he has started 37 games for the Lobos over the past three seasons. He saw more time at right tackle than in the past last fall, starting five games there in 2017, and though the running game lost some of its explosiveness, he still blocked for an attack that ranked third in the conference at 5.21 yards per carry.
Heading into his senior season, Jenkins has quietly established himself as one of the best run-blocking interior linemen out there. With a new offensive system in place, he may just get some more of the recognition he deserves.
