Can Rypien deliver a memorable season and another conference crown?
Watchlist season rolls on with the release of the Davey O’Brien Award’s quarterbacks to watch. Given annually to the nation’s best signal-caller, there is just one name from the Mountain West with whom the O’Brien voters are very familiar.
Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien was one of 26 to make this year’s preseason O’Brien list, which he had done in both 2016 and 2017, as well. He earned second-team all-Mountain West honors last fall after leading the Broncos to another conference title, completing 62.6% of his passes for 2,877 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was at his best in November, in particular, when he had nine touchdowns and just one interception in four games.
Last year’s Davey O’Brien winner was former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.
