2018 Mountain West Football 50 Best Players: #37, Boise State FS DeAndre Pierce
The Boise State defensive back is the first Broncos defender on this year’s countdown of Mountain West football’s top 50 players.
Pierce was a key part of a tough secondary.
Mountain West Wire’s countdown of the conference’s 50 best football players finally comes to its first member of the vaunted Boise State defense, as Broncos free safety DeAndre Pierce comes in at #37.
Pierce was slated to open 2017 as a starter, one of a sophomore duo at the back end of the defense, and did not disappoint. He played in all 14 games last fall, starting eleven of them, and finished with 83 tackles, four tackles for loss and an interception.
Now that he’s heading into his second year as a starter, it seems a little absurd to say that Pierce could help the secondary be even better because, after all, their opponents’ passer rating in 2017’s eleven wins was just 105.14. As the presumptive front-runners for the Group of 5’s big money bowl slot, though, Broncos fans must certainly believe he can.
