2018 Mountain West Football 50 Best Players: #42, Fresno State SS Juju Hughes
One of the many breakout stars on Fresno State’s rejuvenated defense is next on our list of Mountain West football’s top 50 players.
Hughes was the linchpin of a rebuild Bulldogs secondary.
Mountain West football in 2018 just might be the year of the defensive back as another, Fresno State strong safety Juju Hughes, finds his way onto our countdown of the conference’s best players at #42.
Hughes started for the Bulldogs from day one in his sophomore season and helped to key one of the country’s most drastic defensive turnarounds, collecting 71 tackles, seven tackles for loss and seven passes defended for a unit that improved its opponents’ passer rating from 143.28 to 118.61 and became one of the country’s stingiest secondaries on passing downs (2nd-and-8 or more, 3rd-and-5 or more, 4th-and-5 or more).
Heading into his second year as a full-time starter, Hughes will definitely be an asset in a deep and dangerous defensive backfield that hopes to propel Fresno State back to the Mountain West championship and beyond.
