Brad Sanfilippo Promoted To Head Coach At San Jose State

After a surprising year for the baseball program at San Jose State, the Spartans wisely decided to hire Brad Sanfillippo as the full time coach. The decision in most eyes was an easy one as he took a perennial losing team and transformed it into a strong third place finisher in the Mountain West. It had been about 7 years since the last winning or at least decent season for the Spartans so it was a welcome change and the reason for the change was the interim coach. The ensuing search for a permanent head coach therefore was an easy one as the answer was right in front of us and he took the job.

Sanfilippo has some history with San Jose State as he was an assistant in 2013 and 2014. Besides his stint at SJS he spent the rest of his coaching time in the Bay Area as an assistant at the University of California, Berkeley and the head coach at Los Gatos High School. He played his college ball at UC Davis so his ties are all California.

This past season was a good one for the Spartans as they were the third place team in the MWC which got the team into the MWC Tournament where they beat the first place Nevada team for its only win. Next year could be quite a challenge as the team loses a lot of senior leadership but, then again, that’s why he took the job.
