The former conference rivals have agreed to a pleasantly surprising home-and-home series
San Diego State and BYU have agreed to a home-and-home series beginning this December, per a release Tuesday.
The former Mountain West rivals will play December 22 at Viejas Arena and then again on November 9 the following season at the Marriott Center in Provo.
The two programs last battled in 2014 in the Maui Invitational, a game in which the No. 15 Aztecs held off BYU by a score of 92-87. Only six teams have played more games all-time against San Diego State than BYU in its program’s history.
San Diego State is fresh off its first tournament appearance since the 2015 season, capturing the Mountain West auto bid in the conference tournament.
BYU, which left the Mountain West for the WCC back in 2011, has made the NCAA Tournament three times since becoming a WCC member. Its most recent appearance occurred in 2015.
San Diego State was picked third in the Mountain West Wire way-too-early 2018-19 men’s basketball preview.
