The Mountain West championship game is here and it is a throwback of sorts for who will win the conference championship. San Diego State and New Mexico are founding memebers of the Mountain West and are battling for the automatic berth for the NCAA Tournament.

This is the third-ever mathup between these schools in the conference title game and it will tie the most ever for frequent matchup with three. It ties UNLV vs. BYU who have squared off a trio of times.

The winner of this game will also have the most conference tournament wins total with five championships. This is the Aztecs 11th apperance and Lobos seventh.

In the win over Nevada, the Aztecs were all over the boards and attacking for every little thing againast the Wolf Pack and it showed with second chance points, out rebounding Nevada and getting to the line. If San Diego State does that again they have a good shot to win.

New Mexico is just as hot as the Aztecs by winning seven in a row and they are playing a very similar style to San Diego State. In the win over Utah State, the Lobos were attacking on both ends of the court and just wore out an Aggies team. When Utah State started to slow down that is when the Lobos keep the pressure on and made the Aggies look tired. Not sure if they can do that vs. San Diego State but it will be interesting to see.
