New Mexico and Fresno State will determine the No. 3 seed for next week’s tournament

Saturday is the final day of the 2017-18 Mountain West men’s basketball regular season. As a result, we will know all of the seedings for next week’s tournament once Nevada-San Diego State concludes.

Here is what we already know about the seeds that are locked in, regardless of today’s results.

Nevada (No. 1), Boise State (No. 2), Air Force (No. 9), Colorado State (No. 10), and San Jose State (No. 11) have been locked into their respective places for the Mountain West Tournament, leaving seeds 3-8 still up for grabs. Here are the best-case seeding scenarios for each of those six teams:

New Mexico

  • No. 3 seed with win vs. Fresno State
  • Highest-possible seed: 3
  • Lowest-possible seed: 4

Fresno State

  • No. 3 seed with win at New Mexico
  • Highest-possible seed: 3
  • Lowest-possible seed: 4

San Diego State

  • No. 5 seed with win vs. Nevada AND Wyoming loss at Boise State
  • Highest-possible seed: 5
  • Lowest-possible seed: 6

Wyoming

  • No. 4 seed with win at Boise State, San Diego State loss vs. Nevada AND Fresno State loss at New Mexico
  • No. 5 seed with win at Boise State *OR*
  • No. 5 seed with San Diego State loss vs. Nevada
  • Highest-possible seed: 4
  • Lowest-possible seed: 6

UNLV

  • No. 7 seed with win at Utah State
  • Highest-possible seed: 7
  • Lowest-possible seed: 8

Utah State

  • No. 7 seed with win vs. UNLV
  • Highest-possible seed: 7
  • Lowest-possible seed: 8

Saturday’s five-game slate is below:

  • San Jose State at Air Force (4pm ET)
  • Wyoming at Boise State (7pm ET)
  • UNLV at Utah State (9pm ET)
  • Fresno State at New Mexico (9pm ET)
  • Nevada at San Diego State (10pm ET)

The 2018 Mountain West Tournament begins Wednesday with first-round matchups. Teams seeded 5th or better will not play in the first round.
