UNLV Makes Some Changes To Their Staff

Rebels Will Have Some New Faces On The Staff In 2018

According to a tweet by Bruce Feldman, The Rebels have hired a new defensive coordinator in Tom Skipper. The former Florida linebackers coach will take over for Kent Baer, who was fired by head coach Tony Sanchez following the 2017 season.

For Skipper, it will be a return to the Mountain West, a conference he knows well thanks to a five year stint at Fresno State where he coached multiple positions, including time as their interim defensive coordinator in 2011. He also spent two years coaching the linebackers at Colorado State from 2012-14

Along with a coordinator position, coach Sanchez was also looking to fill the safeties coach as well. For that role, he has tapped Al Simmons. The former New Mexico coach will step into the role left vacant by Andy LaRussa.

The Rebels have also expanded the role of current running backs coach Travis Burkett, giving him the title of Special Teams Coordinator.
