Boise State’s NCAA Tournament at-large chances were slim even before they dropped their opening round game in the Mountain West tournament to Utah State, so all that lost to the Aggies did was drop the Broncos seed for the NIT.
Boise State does earn a four seed for the NIT and will face No. 5 Washington out of the Pac-12. While the Broncos are the higher seed they are not able to host the Huskies since Taco Bell Arena is being used for the NCAA opening rounds. So, despite being the higher seeds it will be Washington who gets to host.
Washington comes out the Pac-12 where they finisshed seventh and had a record of 20-12. Here is a look at the numbers the seletion committee usses.
KenPom: 98
ESPN BPI: 115
Sagarain: 94
RPI: 71
Overall, the Huskies were just an OK team this year, and to that extent so is Boise State as is why both are in the NIT and not in the NCAA Tournament. Washington struggled down the stretch and went just 3-7 over their final 10 games.
The Huskies top players are Jaylen Nowell and Noah Dickerson, both average 15 points per game and two others who aveage more than 10 points per game. Scoring is not an issue in this team but they are not overly efficient either and are not even a top 100 team in adjust offense efficiency in KenPom.
This game will air on ESPN3 at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday March 14.
