Rashaad Penny is looking solid for the NFL draft.
What more can be said of Rashaad Penny’s collegiate career at San Diego State? Three letters, NFL. Penny has been the highly anticipated prospect at San Diego State entering and exiting the 2017 season. After being thrust into the spotlight as the featured running back, he never backed down and led all FBS in rushing at 2,383 yards. In the upcoming NFL draft, eyes will be on Penny and where he lands.
Projected Round Taken:
2nd round
Best Fit:
Seattle Seahawks
Strengths
At 5’11” and 220 lbs, Penny has the body to be an every down running back. He can take hits in the hole and push the rock north-south. More of a downhill runner, he can quickly assess his running lanes and push the gas pedal through the gap. When he hits the second level, opponents underestimate how agile he can be and try to arm tackle him. If he can make a first guy miss, he’s going to the house. Tack on his MWC-leading kickoff return touchdowns, he’s got at knack at special teams.

Weaknesses
Rashaad Penny doesn’t do well in pass protection. San Diego State’s offense wasn’t built for that. During the Boise State and Fresno State games, he had a difficult time with big physical guys getting into the backfield. Also Penny, wasn’t the best pass catching running back at San Diego State. That award goes to Donnel Pumphrey. Penny only hauled in 19 receptions, 2 for touchdowns, in 2017, and some knock him down to his uncertainty to stick with a route and find open space.
Overall
Rashaad Penny’s size and resume speak for itself. Scouts have been eyeing him before even when Pumphrey was RB1. Because of a deep running back class that features Saquon Barkley, Nick Chubb, and Sony Michel at the top, he’s going to be underrated whenever he gets the call.
