Corbett Selected By The Browns In The Second Round of The 2018 NFL Draft
With the 33rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected former Nevada left tackle Austin Corbett.
Corbett, the 6 foot-4 tackle was the first player taken in the second round of the draft on Friday evening. After an injury-plagued senior year in high school, Corbet walked on to the Nevada football program and started all but one game during his time in Reno. In his final year playing for the Wolf Pack, he was named to the All Mountain West team at the left tackle position and became the glue as the Wolf Pack transitioned over to an Air Raid style offense under Jay Norvell.
Corbett, who played tackle in college, is projected by the draft experts to move to the interior portion of the offense line due to his versatility and will be joining a Browns teams looking to climb out of the NFL doldrums. In Cleveland, he will be joined by fellow former Wolf Pack lineman Joel Bitonio, who Corbett replaced on the offensive line in Nevada after Bitonio was selected in the 2014 NFL draft.
Corbett has the good feet work, durability, core strength and strong work ethic to be a successful offensive line in the NFL where he plays at the tackle position or if he gets kicked inside as a guard. There are some items that Corbett needs to improve on such as learning how to block in a NFL style scheme and improve his blocking technique, but Corbett can learn and be a solid contributor at the next level.
Corbett is the first Wolf Pack player to be drafted since Bitonio in the 2014 NFL draft and both he and Bitonio will look to be key cogs on the Browns offensive line as Cleveland looks to make the push back towards respectability.
