Perhaps it’s a coincidence, but our countdown of the Mountain West’s best football players finds Boise State cornerback Tyler Horton in exactly the same spot as last year. For the second year in a row, Horton is our staff’s choice as the conference’s top cornerback and the #8 player overall.
Horton improved his game in just about every way imaginable last fall, establishing career highs with 44 tackles, 11 passes defended, three tackles for loss, and two interceptions and forced fumbles apiece. No surprise, then, that conference opponents completed just 55.8% of passes against the Broncos and managed just 6.5 yards per attempt, making Horton an easy choice for the all-conference first team.
2018 will mark his third year as a starter and, in a defensive backfield littered with talent, Horton could well have his best performance ahead of him.
