How high is Rogers’s ceiling?
Our countdown of the Mountain West’s best players comes to its second sophomore and the second unanimous selection by our staff, UNLV quarterback Armani Rogers.
Rogers arrived in Las Vegas with a tremendous amount of hype and, though the overall numbers from his freshman campaign — 52.4% completion rate, 1,471 passing yards and six touchdowns against five interceptions — may seem underwhelming, he gave the Rebels faithful a few glimpses at his ceiling.
He did, after all, contribute 915 rushing yards (after adjusting for sacks), at 7.4 yards per carry, and eight touchdowns on the ground, too. And he set a program record with a perfect 94-yard touchdown strike in a win over Idaho.
If Rogers can stay upright and healthy, as he did miss time with a concussion last fall and had a sack rate of roughly 10%, he should continue developing into one of the conference’s most versatile weapons and lead UNLV back to a rare bowl game.
